Deeds of gift

A deed of gift is a legal document. For certain types of gifts, a deed of gift is required for the transfer to be valid.

A deed of gift provides security for both the donor and the recipient. For some types of gifts, a written deed of gift is a legal requirement.

In a deed of gift, you can ensure that the gift – for example money, property, or shares – is transferred correctly and in accordance with the donor’s wishes. You can also include specific conditions, such as rights of use or that the gift should remain the recipient’s separate property. With a properly drafted deed of gift, you can avoid future disputes and unnecessarily lengthy proceedings before, for example, the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority (Lantmäteriet).

We can assist you with, among other things:
  • Ensuring that the deed of gift meets all legal requirements and is binding
  • Advising on possible conditions for the gift to ensure it is managed according to your wishes
  • Carrying out the administrative measures required as a result of the gift, such as updating the company’s share register, applying for title registration with the Swedish mapping, cadastral and land registration authority (Lantmäteriet), or handling membership changes and updates to the ownership register with a tenant-owners’ association
  • Advising on possible tax consequences and how best to structure the gift to avoid unexpected costs
